The Scottish psychiatrist RD Lang wrote about human entanglements in Knots (1970), Do You Love Me? (1976) and other places. I wrote about half of these pieces in the 1970s before discovering Laing but he had an obvious influence thereafter. A second influence was DH Lawrence’s Pansies (1929), particularly those pieces which were little more than pithy one-liners.
