A lot of people think they can write only they’ve nothing to write about. I started off like that – a writer without a subject. I felt I could write about sport and that has been my main subject. Within that subject I’ve often been asked why I write what I write. The answer is rarely straightforward. My preference is for the byways, the offshoots that have made the journey interesting.
