Clem Hill was Australia’s greatest left-hand batsman before the Second World War and the world’s leading runscorer at the time of his retirement in 1912. The reminiscences appeared in 20 parts in the Adelaide newspaper, The News from 23 February to 17 March 1933 and my role as editor and annotator was to shape the book and provide the historical context to make greater sense for the modern reader. As an introduction I reworked a long essay on Hill I had previously written for Cricket Lore. The book was published by the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians.
