The story of the Adelaide University Cricket Club dates back to 1881 before joining the South Australian Cricket Association in 1908. A grade premierships were few and far between with just one title (1925-26) before three wins in the 1990s and the brilliant first-grade success of 2020-21. However, across all grades The Blacks have had considerable success with 58 flags in all.

The sweeping narrative history is democratic. While the first half of the book records the performances of the top side, separate chapters are devoted to the B, C, D and E grade sides, the many teams fielded in the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association, women’s cricket, intervarsity matches and social events.
